Food Chain Safety Programme

Food Chain Safety Programme

The safety of our food has become of increasing public concern following public health crises such as BSE, Foot and Mouth and outbreaks of food poisoning such as those caused by E.coli and Salmonella bacteria.

Harper Adams is contributing to systematic improvements in food hygiene and safety by:

  • Offering training and business support to small to medium sized food businesses through our Business Club, the Food Business Initiative (please download the Case Study below for more information).
  • Undertaking research for the Food Standards Agency into the presence of fungal toxins in cereals for human consumption (please download the Case Study below for more information).
  • Training new Meat Inspectors for the Meat Hygiene Service (please download the Case Study below for more information).
  • Developing a Hygiene and Safety Standard for small food producers on behalf of Heart of England Fine Foods (HEFF).
  • Working with Defra and the Central Science Laboratory on a three year project to assess the impact of fresh produce importation on the health of UK plants (please download the Case Study below for more information).
