Rural Professional Practice Programme

Rural Professional Practice Programme

Existing work with Rural Professionals
Harper Adams works with a wide range of professional practitioners in the rural economy.

The main strands of our work include:

  • Recognition of the key role of professionals such as surveyors, planners and lawyers in promoting economic development in the rural economy.
  • Providing CPD and other training opportunities to reduce the problems of distance and relative isolation in rural areas.
  • Working with professionals to bring their practice-based experience to bear in joint research programmes with Harper Adams.

The Aspire Programme
In January 2005, Harper Adams University College was successful in attracting funding to establish a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), known as Aspire (Advancing Skills for Professionals in the Rural Economy). Of the 74 successful bids Aspire is the only CETL located within an institution or university faculty that specialises in supporting the needs of the rural economy, land-based and food sectors.

One of Aspire's key areas is the ongoing support for continuing professional development through part-time and work-based learning, via the Lifelong Learning Programme. For more information on Aspire, please follow the links below.

Training in Practice Management and Consulting Skills
Harper Adams also has several years experience of working with consultancies and other professional organisations, such as surveyors and veterinary practices, in the area of business management of individual firms, and skills training in project management and winning competitive work.

As each company's needs are different in this area, each consulting and training programme is devised in consultation with the professional client.
